Deacon Tim Shanahan Appointed to St Joseph’s
Posted by admin - 21/06/17 11:48AM - - 1/52/53/54/55/5
The Archbishop has appointed a Deacon to Nambour Parish. Rev Tim Shanahan will take up duties amongst us from the 1st July. He will not be working full time but giving his service voluntarily as much as he is able. For many years he and his wife Jeanette have lived at Caloundra. Tim has served there as Deacon for seven years and as Pastoral Associate during that time. The Deacon’s role includes assisting at Mass, celebrating baptism, weddings, and funerals and preaching. He can preside at Liturgies of the Word in the absence of a priest. The Deacon’s role is not one which takes over ministries which are properly the responsibility of lay people. We look forward to welcoming Tim next weekend.

Pope Francis on TED2017

Pope Francis: Why the only future worth building includes everyone

A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you, says His Holiness Pope Francis in this searing TED Talk delivered directly from Vatican City. In a hopeful message to people of all faiths, to those who have power as well as those who don't, the spiritual leader provides illuminating commentary on the world as we currently find it and calls for equality, solidarity and tenderness to prevail. "Let us help each other, all together, to remember that the 'other' is not a statistic, or a number," he says. "We all need each other."

"Yes, tenderness is the path of choice for the strongest, most courageous men and women. Tenderness is not weakness; it is fortitude. It is the path of solidarity, the path of humility. Please, allow me to say it loud and clear: the more powerful you are, the more your actions will have an impact on people, the more responsible you are to act humbly. If you don’t, your power will ruin you, and you will ruin the other."

Liturgies for Holy Week

We begin at all the Masses this weekend with the Blessing and Procession of Psalms. We will gather outside the Church for that celebration.

Holy Thursday

The Sacred Triduum (The Three Days) of the Lord's Paschal Mystery begins with the Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7.00pm. This continues with a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Chapel where adoration will take place.

Good Friday

The Stations of the Cross devotion will take place at 10.00am.

The Liturgical Celebration of the Lord's Passion will commence at 3.00pm

Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday is a day to reflect on the reality of Jesus' death and prepare for the Easter Vigil.

Easter and its Vigil

The Easter Vigil begins at 700pm with the Service of Light. A fire is lit and blessed. From it the Easter Candle is lit and carried in procession into the Church. The Mass is a Celebration of the Lord's Resurrection during which candidates and catechumens are Baptised and Recieved into the Church.

Easter Sunday

Masses on Easter Sunday will be:

7.00am and 9.00am in St Josephs Church, Nambour.

11.00am in St John Bosco Church, Kenilworth.
