The COVID crisis is not going to end for anyone, until it ends for everyone

Show support for our neighbours around the world, many who are ill-equipped to deal with a pandemic

The worst impact of COVID-19 will be experienced by the communities who were already facing poor sanitation, overcrowding and limited access to healthcare. Overcrowding makes social distancing almost impossible, and puts vulnerable family and community members at risk. The lack of running water, soap and face masks means that communities cannot contain the spread of the virus.
During widespread lockdowns, vulnerable families also struggle to put food on the table. Many households are losing all income, which pushes those who were already living at the margins further into poverty and hunger.

Caritas Australia has banded together with a group of churches, international aid agencies and thousands of Australians to sign the pledge for the #EndCOVIDForAll campaign.
Sign the pledge now to show your support for vulnerable communities around the world. Because it’s not over until its over for everyone.

COVID-19 puts already vulnerable communities at greater risk

Many of our closest neighbours lack the necessary resources to keep their citizens safe. In Indonesia, there are only four doctors and twelve hospital beds for every 10,000 people. In Bangladesh, the 1.3 million Rohingya are facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with the combined threats of poor living conditions and COVID-19. The inadequate access to food, clean water, sanitation, education and healthcare in the camps puts Rohingya communities at even higher risk of COVID-19, which is already spreading through the camps.
Each passing day means that more lives are lost in vulnerable communities.
At Caritas Australia, we have spent over 50 years supporting people to help themselves out of poverty, injustice and hunger.

Inmanuel Chayan Biswas from Caritas Bangladesh says that the “love, care, and prayer” demonstrated by Caritas supporters during the COVID-19 crisis has made him feel even more committed to his work on the frontlines of the pandemic in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh.
Even though our borders are shut, our hearts will never be. Let’s show our support.

Vine and Branches
Vine and Branches
For all those preparing for the Sacraments of Iniation, adults and children, it has been a messy time. We have had to change our timetable and modify our methods of preparation. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit does not need a timetable. The Holy Spirit supports us and works with our weakness.

After a long wait the adults who would have been received into the Church at Easter are now being welcomed this Saturday evening at the 6.00pm Mass. So it will be a kind of mini Easter Vigil.

So too, the children's First Communion has been delayed. Their preparation will have a formal beginning Thursday 6th August with a session in the Church for parents and children. They have had to do much of their preparation already at home. We pray that families have navigated the process well. The children will make their First Eucharist over three weekends to spread numbers attending with the Covid-19 restrictions.

This Thursday evening, preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation will begin with the parent session in the Church. For Confirmation we are able to follow our usual process. So after group meetings Confirmation will be celebrated on Satruday 12th September at 3.00pm. Rev Peter Brannley, Dean of the North Coast, will be celebrant.

This Sunday morning we welcome Bishop Ken Howell to the 8.00am Mass. He will preside at Mass and Institution of Adrian Eldrige to the Office of Lector. This is a first liturgical celebration on his journey to the Permanent Diaconate.
