What the Church Teaches on Asylum and Migration
Posted by admin - 22/04/14 08:18PM - -
The Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office has a large resource of Catholic teaching on migrants and refugees from Popes and Bishops. Recently the Australian Office issued a phamplet entitled, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matthew 25:35), What the Catholic Church Teachese on Asylum and Migration." I speaks of the centrality of human dignity when considering how refugees are treated: "The Catholic Church teaches that the demands of human dignity always come before the national interest."
Copies of the pamphlet are available from the Parish Office or can be downloaded on this link: Pamphlet as pdf file.Full Story

Fr Patrick Chukwu has been Chaplain to Nambour General Hospital since September 2012. He also worked at Noosa Parish on weekends. He has now been apponted to Wilston Parish in Brisbane with particular responsibility for the Enoggera community. We all thank Fr Patrick for his dedicated and generous work at the Hospital and offer our prayers for him in his new ministry.
He will be replaced by Fr Jojimon Thomas MCBS (Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament founded in India in 1933) who has been Associate Pastor at Redcliffe Parish. He will have the same duties as Fr Patrick had before him. Welcome to the Sunshine Coast Fr Jojimon.
Both these changes take place from the 29th March.

A Call for a National Lament from the Catholic Religious of Australia
Posted by admin - 08/03/14 11:17AM - -
"We are a society which has forgotten how to weep"
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia.
As you take your next step remember the first people who walked this land.
Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Sydney
We lament the lack of compassion for people seeking asylum in Australia
We lament the denial of human dignity and freedom
We lament the indifference
We lament our inability to turn the tide
"The other" is no longer a brother or sister to be loved, but simply someone who
disturbs my life and my comfort...
In this globalized world, we have fallen into globalized indifference. We have become
used to the suffering of others: it doesn’t affect me; it doesn’t concern me; it’s none of
Pope Francis, Lampedusa 8.7.2013
We beg forgiveness for our indifference to so many of our brothers and sisters.
God, we ask your pardon for those who are complacent and closed
amid comforts which have deadened their hearts;
we beg your forgiveness for those who by their decisions on the global level
have created situations that lead to these tragedies.
Forgive us, Lord!
Pope Francis, Lampedusa 8.7.2013
Jesus said, “An evil spirit of this kind is only driven out by prayer and fasting”
Mark 9: 29
