An update to all from the latest email from Jenny Ferris in Tanzania,
I can't believe it is 4 weeks since I arrived back in Tanzania…
I decided on Wednesday afternoon that we weren't going to be busy on Thursday, so we would take the children on the excursion that we had planned earlier in the year, but hadn't been able to get the funds to hire the bus. I certainly couldn't do that in Australia. We had a great day. We took the children to the Cultural Heritage Centre in town, which has an art gallery that has no entry fee, so all it cost us was the bus. Probably not my first choice for an excursion for 3 to 6 year old children, but nonetheless we went. I am continually amazed at these children. We took 44 children on a small bus, boy were we squashed, and looked at the different paintings, photos, carvings masks, and traditional furniture that were in the gallery at the time. In all the time that we were in the gallery, only one child forgot and touched a painting. I consider that fantastic. The children were so well behaved, and really loved the pictures of the African animals that were plentiful, but I think that the thing they liked most were the fish that we saw as we left. They were all "sunbaking" in the pond that is at the entrance of the gallery. It was obviously quiet before we left, and the fish were all at the top of the water and the children were rapt. As the noise level rose, the fish slowly sank down, and disappeared, but the kids loved it. Even just the bus ride was fun for the children, as they don't often or ever go to town. A big thank you to my friends who gave me some money to use for the children at the school. That day is something they will remember for a long time.
God bless you and have a safe and happy Christmas.
